In January 2001 the North Ossetian Centre for Social Research of the Institute of Social-Political Research of Russian Academy of Science initiated the survey among the citizens of the Chechen Republic. The total number of respondents was 500 persons. The survey was held on the boarder of the Chechen Republic and the Republic North Osetia-Alania.

The major goal of the survey was sociological analysis of crisis situation in Chechnya as well as possibilities of the crisis overcoming in national politics of Russian Federation administration.

A special questionnaire was elaborated and the survey was held in the form of a formalized interview. The questionnaire included the questions based on the society's widespread variants of political resolution of the prolonged interethnic tension in the region, as well as questions that allow to characterize Chechnya inhabitants' perceptions of all power branches both inside the Republic and in the whole Russia...
